One of our club members just spied out the "Coming Soon" Supercharger location listed on Tesla's Find Us page as "St. Petersburg".  It's actually located at the Wawa gas station at 3101 Gandy Blvd, Pinellas Park.  It will have 8 charging stalls.

    Here is the vicinity map:

    Update August 10, 2017

This Supercharger location is operational and its location has been uploaded to the Tesla fleet's navigation systems.

So we need to locate the remaining 10 Supercharger Stations that Tesla hopes to construct by year-end.  Please keep a look-out and let me know at if you think you have a location.

Earlier I received a credible rumor regarding the location of the Supercharger Station coming to Sarasota. My source believed that the station would be located at a Whole Foods Market in Sarasota. There currently is a Whole Foods in downtown Sarasota, but that would not be an ideal location.

However, Whole Foods is currently building a large 40,000 square foot anchor store at University Station which will be located at the southwest corner of University Parkway and Honore Avenue in Sarasota. This development is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year which is consistent with Tesla's information on their Find Us page.

This is located nearby University Town Center Mall (utc) and is a good location for a Supercharger Station once the major road construction is completed to facilitate access to this area.

I asked the University Station Facebook page folks whether they could confirm that they would be hosting a Tesla Supercharger there. I received an interesting response. They didn't ask me what a Supercharger was, nor did they deny it was going in there. Here's their response. "University Station - Sarasota We cannot confirm that but stay tuned to our page for updates."

Here's a vicinity map of the location of University Station. You can see how close it is to UTC mall (see Kona Grill) and I-75.

Well, today a member at Tesla Motors Club confirmed that the Supercharger Station is indeed being constructed in back of the Whole Foods and it will have 20 charging stalls.

Here are a couple of photos:

Looks like the "Coming Soon" Supercharger Station in Live Oak is well underway at the intersection of I-10 and 129. At the Busy Bee Truck Stop at 6886 US-129.

The station will have 12 charging stalls.

We have determined that item 12 on the list, the Florida City Supercharger Station, is currently coming along nicely.  It is an 8-terminal station located in the parking lot of Sonny's BBQ in Florida City. For photos go to Supercharger Station Being Constructed in Florida City, FL

How about two iconic American Cars clubs getting together for a short, local Ice Cream Run?

The Skyway Corvette Club of Sarasota-Bradenton invited our Southwest Region to join them in a meet and greet on Veteran's Day.

We started by meeting at the University Town Center Mall (UTC) in Sarasota and caravaned  over to the Culver's of Sarasota 4 miles away.

It was an informal, fun, local event with about 30 cars and around 60 people in attendance.  Even some of the UTC Tesla Store staff joined us at the mall parking lot.

We had a nice turn out at the UTC mall. Probably over 60 people.

We had a number of Model Xs

Some of the UTC Tesla Store staff joined us.

We all caravaned over to the Culver's of Sarasota for some wholesome custard

Please Vote NO for Amendment One in November

In general, our Florida electric utilities have been helpful advocates promoting electric vehicle adoption in the state. However, the same can not be said for promoting solar energy when it comes to supporting policies beneficial to residential customers and small businesses.

Like the automobile dealerships fighting Tesla in selling directly to consumers, the electric utilities are spending millions to prevent small solar businesses from pursuing a free-market solution of leasing solar panels directly to consumers thereby limiting up-front costs to homeowners.

Floridians for Solar Choice started a citizens' initiative to deregulate the solar market to allow third-party power providers to sell rooftop solar-generated power.  To confuse voters with competing Amendments, Florida's four largest electric companies created the "Consumers for Smart Solar" initiative which will appear on the November ballot as Amendment One, masquerading as a pro-solar energy initiative.

Please take the time to read the Tampa Bay Times editorial by Paula Dockery, a syndicated columnist who served in the Florida Legislature for 16 years as a Republican from Lakeland.

Dockery: Don't be fooled by anti-solar Amendment 1
